English Day for 6th Graders
After months of preparation…
After months of preparation and planning, the day finally came: Our English Day for the 6th graders, organized by our P-Seminar together with our English teacher Mrs. Bornemann. The goal of the day was to spark the students' interests for the English language as well as for the different cultures of English-speaking countries.
…we presented a bunch of attractions
We did this by splitting them into small groups in which they visited the six different stations we had prepared for them.
For our more athletic and sport-loving students there was an adapted American football game going on in our school gym named »Flag Football«. After the rules had been explained, the match could commence leading to some very fun and exciting games.
Hungry after the exercise? In »Clint’s Trap Kitchen« we served authentic American burgers as well as holding our very own hot dog-eating competition.
Other stations we had included a Kahoot quiz, which contained a lot of tricky questions ranging from topics like history and important cities up to the different rivers in the US.
Another group was dedicated to the specific English-speaking countries and presented these with a self-made game.
At yet another station, some 11th grade students talked about the experiences they had during their exchange years and informed the 6th graders about the different options and opportunities.
Finally, for our music lovers we had a whole room dedicated to singing English songs as well as karaoke.
During the breaks we sold some traditional treats such as South African milk tarts and American cookies.
We hope that the 6th graders enjoyed this day as much as we did!
